In
a German newspaper we found a travel report about a Danube bike route
in Serbia and were immediately enthusiastic to try it. We were lucky:
our Serbian colleague put us in contact with a “bike-specialist” from
Belgrade – Ivan. In Belgrade arrived, we met him and could gratefully
accept his support and hospitality. Ivan (an active bicyclist himself)
helped us to rent bikes, showed us the favourable route and gave us many
important tips for the trip through Serbia. While the tour we stayed
always in contact with him and got his offers for accommodation and
catering. Returning after 12 days in Belgrade we met him again and let
us show the old town of Belgrade. The
trip was quite hard due to the almost continually raining (8 of 12
days!), but nonetheless very interesting and absolutely recommendable!
Beside the beautiful landscape along the Danube (national park Djerdap)
and the South-Eastern Serbia (mountains around Nis) it was the
hospitality, cordiality and helpfulness of the Serbian people, that was
the most impressive. We had a lot of interesting and friendly meetings
and experiences in Serbia, and one of them we will remember
particularly: it was our first stop on the Danube route, a guest house
called “Dunavski Plicak” close to Kovin. Two young people offer their
guests a formidable self made catering, comfortable accommodation and
very open, friendly atmosphere. After a only short stay there we had the
feeling to get news friends. This accommodation on the Danube route is
absolutely recommendable for every biker!
Our conclusion after the Serbian trip: we will come again!
